I find Candy not only to lie about her life, but as an offensive judgemental false Christian
Hello Everyone,
I was very lucky to have stumbled upon www.keepingthehome.com. It has sense been an incredible source of entertainment. I have not only enjoyed Candy's posts, pictures, and recipes (which by the way would turn away an Ethiopian from eating), but I have been amazed by the choreographed circus of freak show supporters. There are great tips about "What to do when CPS shows up", how to make your own detergent, why I am a dresses only, why I am a KJV bible only, I hate Catholics, and many many more delightful, yet useless, tips. In my opinion she is a very close minded, judgemental individual. She spits venom in the name of the Lord to people that do not believe completely what she does. We have found such incredible claims such as Candy use to be a model, ITU certified, her husband was inducted into the inventors hall of fame, she was asked by MENSA to join, and they do not pay their taxes. Please help me continue this struggle against evil and provide further instances of her untruths. Your comments will never be moderated, deleted, or you will never be banned.
Thank you,
Maybe I am just dumb but even though I love to read older books like Gone With The Wind or Jane Eyre, I have a hard time understanding all of Pilgrim's Progress.
Candy's reading lists for both herself and her children is important.
One of the things about Candy that annoyed me the most when I ceased to be a "fan" and started reading her blog more closely for falsities is her book list. When I initially saw that list I was so hard on myself because, as an English major, I thought I should be reading at least as much as Candy. Never mind that I am home educating 6 children under 12 as well as doing housework, etc.
Her reading list made me depressed, inadaquate, and insecure. That's important.
The reading list for her children is the same. If I was beginning homeschooling and saw that list, and my normal children didn't seem up to it, I might think that I was inadequate to teach them or that there was some problem with them. That is also important--very important.
So, in my opinion, we should pick apart the list. It's outrageous to think she reads every book on that list, at least as quickly as she says she does, and even more outrageous to think wonderboy is reading everything on his list, too.
Finally, I am in total ageement with Clare, and I've posted this before, that Candy is NOT reading the books on her list (well, maybe the silly Chick comics). If she really read them, she would speak about them more naturally, not use meaningless phrases you'd hear a lazy college student use.
She's a world-class faker, our Candy, and we should always point it out.
Not that I am a fan of Candy, but in her defense, at least some of the books on 8-year-old's list had Children's Version out beside them - not "Great Expectations" though.
My son read "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" when he was only nine (his choice after watching the movie with his dad). Did he understand it all? No, but he had the good sense to ask his dad anything he did not understand. It was the start of a passion for WWII stories and history that is still present at the age of 30. Subsequently, his WWII fascination led to an interest in history in general. He knows everything - seriously. If I am ever on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire or whatever it is, he will be my lifeline to call.
This has been worthless info to you all, I know, but I was just remembering.......
Just to REALLY beat a dead horse, why is it so important to put "second time through" or whatever next to the books she's supposedly reading? Isn't that arrogant? I mean how superior does a person really need to feel? Not only can I read all these books, I can read some of them TWICE or multiple times!!
Just found this site. I've been reading Candys blog for about a year, started as a fan, then started to find her a little over-the-top and then got a little curious about the 'anti-Candy' blogs that she often mentioned. Wondered why people would be 'anti-Candy', so did a search and found Sweeping The Home which lead me on to you guys.
Well done all of you for saying what needs to be said about Candy. I haven't felt comfortable reading her blog for a while, but fascination keeps making me look! Reading here I now realise why I have felt that there is something 'wrong' with Candys blog.
Thanks again to you all - milehimama, STH is wonderful!
*special wave to Clare, from me down in Hampshire :)
My mom was obsessed with books when I was growing up. It was always book after book after book. She absolutely loved to read but this was her escape from reality. When I read about Candy giving her oldest some classicals to read (not all of them) it is like she is telling them "come into my world" LOL.
Yes! And has a personality much like Kimora. Me, Me, Look at Me. I'm awesome. I'm always right. You need to do it the way I do it if not your stupid. It's all about lookin' fabulous and takin' down anybody who shakes or breaks that for them.
He would have gotten a perfect score, but his pencil broke and he tried to eat it. Why they couldn't let him take the test with fat, washable crayons, I'll never know. Ageism, I tell ya.
Just to REALLY beat a dead horse, why is it so important to put "second time through" or whatever next to the books she's supposedly reading? Isn't that arrogant?
In Candy's defense, with her commenters, she'd be forever explaining that YES, she's already read Nourishing Traditions, and YES that is why she drinks Kombucha tea, etc., if she didn't say that she'd already read it.
Hi Lisa in Hampshire! I used to live in Winchester ( we moved there from London when I was 13) Hampshires lovely. I came back to London when I was 18. I'm just addicted to city living. I'm a bit twisted that way. I still love coming down that way though, so it's good to see a hampshire hog here!
I don't think she would be as arrogant sounding however if she would just put (read before) instead of 2,3, or 4th time thru. It is like she wants people to know she has read it multiple times so she can claim to be a expert or something at whatever it was she read.
Wow, I guess you and your friends should tell Chelsea House Publications that they have the title of their book wrong, which is called "The Third Crusade: Richard the Lionhearted Vs. Saladin"

Not a full time, real life friend, but a blog friend who sometimes is a real life friend.
If you live an hour away, I guess you wouldn't take up as much helpmeet time.

Peace and Blessings!!
Grammar alert!
My comment SHOULD have begun:
Candy's reading lists for both herself and her children ARE important
I shouldn't have said English major. Now I look stupid.
Maybe I should start a blog and make other people feel stupid so I CAN FEEL SMART...
Kritterc, I like your new Meez Dress and up-do. You look stunning, as usual.
I agree with the others who think it is important to look at what Candy says she reads because it is part of the persona she puts out there.
Catholicmom - I knew you would like it. Now, if I could just tan as well as you I would be perfect!!

Blech!
"her son also reads 5 chapters of KJV per day..."
Obviously, Mensa should be notified, because they will want to invite him to join.

I take no credit for STH!
It's all Mandy's doing.
Let me know when Candy has a new post.
I will trudge through the hurricane to get internet access because I have nothing better to do.
I am confused. It says her 8 year old is reading Robinson Crusoe. Where is the portion about Great Expectations? I might have missed it.
catholicmom...New post up at Candy's!
ourfamilyishis...Candy posted a few days ago about her course of study for this coming homeschool year. It's under the teen MEEZ salvation post.
Anymommy, I totally agree about her commenting that she has read the book multiple times or whatever. Just an ego thing.
Lisa, welcome!
Second the welcome Lisa!!
Hope you enjoy this as much as I do! These women and men really get me thinking about stuff.
Now, off to work on homeschool stuff!!
Check back later!!

When my son was 8, he really enjoyed the CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS series.
In 7th grade, he scored 1150 on the SAT.
I think a lot of his intelligence is because he is being raised Catholic and his mother, of course.
Oh yeah? My son WROTE Captain Underpants, and he scored 1475 on the SAT at age three.
He would have gotten a perfect score, but his pencil broke and he tried to eat it. Why they couldn't let him take the test with fat, washable crayons, I'll never know. Ageism, I tell ya.
Well, my very intelligent, history-buff son got a "U" in conduct in the first grade. Beat that!!
have you ever looked into the Narrow way bible study? We really enjoy it..it is from pearables.

It always cracks me up to see people wasting their breath to recommend anything to Candy.
I am wondering about "pearables." Is that something like "Fruit of the Loom" or "Veggie Tales?"
That would be me. I posted about the Meez room & CPS.
Kritterc, I gave you a "U" on your first MEEZ outfit.

Perhaps I will. It won't be the first time.

Another Hampshire Hog checking in - moved right down to the south coast when I was 8, I now live in London!
We use the Narrow way here for our devotions in our home. I love it very much!
Pearables? Oh my gosh, that is funny. I really hope that was just a typo.
http://www.pearables.com/ is where I get our books from. I love their home ec stuff for girls.
